FARDAD Dadvand

From Iran to Freedom Through Fashion

I'm Fardad. 33-year-old queer person from Iran,

Almost eight years ago, I had to leave my home country because I'm queer. I was looking for a safe place where I could be myself and follow my passions.

When I was a kid, I liked drawing brides in beautiful dresses instead of drawing cars or things that boys were "supposed" to like. It was my way of showing who I truly am.

I used to spend a lot of time with my aunt, watching her sew and make dresses. She was really good at it, and it fascinated me. This made me want to learn more about making clothes.

Creating and designing dresses became more than just a hobby for me. It was a way to find peace and feel strong. Every time I made something, it felt like I was expressing myself and my identity.

Wearing My Own Designs

One of the most important moments in my life was when I got to wear the dresses I designed. It wasn't just about wearing pretty clothes; it was about showing the world who I really am. It helped me feel confident and challenged the rules that used to hold me back.

My life story shows that no matter where you come from or who you are, you can be strong and true to yourself. As a queer person who had to leave Iran, I faced many challenges, but I found comfort in creativity and learned how important it is to be yourself. I hope my story inspires others to be proud of who they are and find their own strength, just like I did.
